A new report by German software firm Software AG has confirmed what we've been seeing in the market over the past year - that the pandemic precipitated a huge uptick in the move to digital.
This makes sense. In lockdowns, organisations relied heavily on key technology and communications services to stay operational and in touch with their people, customers and supply chains. Both large and small businesses have found their IT resilience tested to a significant degree. Having focused on managing the crisis and ensuring business continuity, I think it is now likely that they will seek to make their operations more resilient to ensure they are better placed to handle any repeat of the situation, whether through further waves of Covid-19 and its variants, a different pandemic or other event.
To my mind, the key learnings from the pandemic experience that organisations should apply to their transformation programmes are: 1. Building resilience through investment, 2. Diversification of the supply chain, and 3. Putting data at the centre of the digital strategy.
I look forward to seeing how these trends play out in the wave of transformation projects we expect to see in the market in 2021.
