It was interesting to see the announcement today that Nokia and Samsung have entered into a patent licensing agreement concerning video standards. Most of the SEP / FRAND space tends to be eaten up with news from the realm of connectivity (generally 3G/4G/5G), and it is nice to have the reminder that standardisation, and the legal issues surrounding that, extend into a variety of sectors.
Also of interest is the fact that this seems to have come about without a litigious shot fired; a stark contrast to the multi-jurisdictional litigation playing out between Samsung and Ericsson.
