SaaS - a customer's perspective

Almost every business in the modern day will be procuring and using at least one - if not many - software as a service (SaaS) solutions. They may be anything from accounting solutions, CRMs, booking portals, HR platforms or editing software to solutions for coffee ordering, booking meeting rooms or managing your files - the ubiquity of SaaS is evident. The importance of these various bits of software (and the risks they pose) to the business may vary wildly, yet despite this they are often contracted for in the same way.

In our latest episode of The Roadmap podcast, Vik Khurana and I take a practical look at how to approach engaging SaaS suppliers from a customer’s perspective, including – crucially – how to ultimately minimise risk to your business.

In the episode we cover:

  • What is encompassed by SaaS?
  • How should you as a customer approach SaaS deals in a pragmatic and risk proportionate way?
  • What, if anything, is negotiable? When may this change?
  • What are your key risk areas?
  • Making the distinction between contract value vs. business/data value
