In this podcast episode, Marc Dautlich and Alex Denoon discuss ambient voice technologies (AVTs), also known as 'AI scribes'. And of course, they are looking at AVTs specifically in the field of life sciences and healthcare.

In our previous episode, we put a question to the European Commission’s AI Act Service Desk. Read on to find out how they responded - and listen to the episode for what Alex and Marc thought of that response.
Dear Madam,
Thank you for your follow-up question.
Please note that the AI Act Service Desk is mandated solely to provide guidance on the implementation of the AI Act. Its remit does not extend to taking a position on or validating interpretations of its provisions beyond the content of the AI Act or accompanying Guidelines published by the European Commission.
We understand that you seek confirmation that point 5 of Annex VI AI Act should be interpreted as referring principally to the deployer's use of a high-risk AI system and the processing of personal data undertaken in that context.
As explained in our previous response, Annex VI AI Act concerns the EU Declaration of Conformity for high-risk AI systems, while Article 47 AI Act provides that the declaration is issued under the sole responsibility of the provider and Article 16(g) AI Act establishes the obligation for providers of high-risk AI systems to draw up such declaration. The AI Act does not provide further guidance or explanation regarding the statement referred to in point 5 of Annex V.
As noted in our previous response, the obligations arising under Article 16 AI Act will apply on 2 December 2027 at the earliest according to the timeline established by the AI Act as amended by the Digital Omnibus on AI, and the European Commission is currently preparing guidance that may provide further clarification on these matters, to ensure that stakeholders have the necessary information to ensure compliance with the AI Act by the time the obligations come into force.
Specifically, the European Commission has announced the preparation of further guidance, including:
- Guidelines on the practical application of the obligations of providers and deployers of high-risk AI systems;
- Joint Guidelines on the interplay of the AI Act and EU data protection law, in collaboration with the European Data Protection Board.
More information may become available once the relevant guidelines have been published and the corresponding obligations become applicable.
It is recommended to stay updated through the website Shaping Europe's digital future and AI Act Single Information Platform .
Best regards,
The AI Act Service Desk
