Migrant workers – action required!

Since early 2020, all biometric residence permits for individuals with visas expiring on 31 December 2024 or later, as well as those with indefinite leave to remain, have been automatically given an expiry date of 31 December 2024. As part of the UK government’s planned phase-out of BRPs, these BRPs are now being replaced with eVisas. UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) has asked all those with BRPs due to expire on 31 December 2024 to create a UKVI account so that they can access their new eVisa.

Individuals can use their passport or visa application reference number to create their UKVI account if they no longer have access to their BRP card. UKVI has advised that if an individual’s eVisa is not immediately available upon creation of their UKVI account they do not need to do anything as it will be in touch once the eVisa details are available to view.

We suggest that employers instruct any sponsored workers or other employees with leave to remain to set up a UKVI account to access their eVisa, which they will in the future be able to use to travel to the UK in conjunction with their passport. Until the end of 2024 these individuals will need to continue carrying their physical BRP.

You need to create a UKVI account to access your eVisa and share information about your immigration status and conditions, such as your right to work or rent in the UK, using the view and prove service.
